Dealing with Disappointment

I hear the words “I am so stressed” on a daily basis. My loved ones are surrounded by pressure and let downs almost constantly. Not because they are pessimistic, but because that is what life is filled with. With that, you need to learn how to deal with disappointment. Sometimes, even if you work your hardest and put all your energy into something, it won’t work out. This is not because you are not good enough. It is not because there are evil spirits working against you. It is rarely ever personal. Failure happens because it wasn’t meant to be. Not everything will happen as you want it to. 9 times out of 10 this will lead you to bigger, better things.

“Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.”

Winston Churchill

Learning to deal with such failure and disappointment however, is the real demon. It is often difficult to deal with criticism and the sometimes cruel outcomes of your labour. But it really, truly doesn’t matter. What matters is allowing yourself to feel upset and frustrated. You then need to pick yourself up and carry on. Do not wallow in sadness and feel sorry for yourself. You need to shake it off (not an intentional ad for Swift’s hit- although I would recommend a listen to that song, it’s always a party pleaser). You need to be able to keep going. Bad news is a set back, not the end of the world. Most of the time it isn’t even bad news, it’s just pushing you in a different direction. You just need to keep going.

I know you can do it.
